Some of Utah’s most sought-after hunting permits are about to open for applications. Starting Tuesday, October 28th at 8 a.m., Utah residents can apply for the 2026 sportsman permits — rare tags that allow hunters to pursue prized species like elk, bison, deer, and bighorn sheep on nearly any open unit in the state, with extended season dates. Applications can be submitted online through the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, by phone, or at a regional office, and must be received by 11 p.m. on November 18th.

DWR officials say there’s a new application system this year, so hunters should familiarize themselves with the updated website before applying. Each species requires a ten-dollar nonrefundable application fee, and permit costs range from forty to five hundred sixty-four dollars depending on the animal. Application results will be posted by November 26th. For details and eligibility requirements, visit wildlife.utah.gov.
