Preview: Purple Fox Conundrum Opens This Weekend in Mancos

The Purple Fox Conundrum opens in the heart of the Mancos Valley this weekend. Based at Sacred Song Farm, the interactive art experience brings visitors through a series of vignettes along a path of sagebrush.

Executive producer Sarah Syverson has compared it to Meow Wolf, a large indoor art collective in Santa Fe with its own interactive exhibits. Meow Wolf was an inspiration, she says, but the Purple Fox Conundrum’s high desert location sets it apart.

“The land is an important performer in all of it,” Syverson said. She added that part of the production process involved walking around the farm for inspiration.

About 30 local artists — including carpenters, actors and painters — contributed to the project. Visitors follow the mystery of the purple fox as they interact with vignettes like tech-loving “Preacher Siri” and look into mirrors lined with provoking phrases.

Syverson joined KSJD’s Daniel Rayzel on Morning Edition for a preview of the one-time installation.
