College in Durango turns to civic partners and its own land to ease housing crisis for students, faculty, and staff

The pandemic paused an earlier effort by college officials to address affordable housing. But an unusually large incoming freshman class brought the problem back into focus.

Fort Lewis College has seen one of largest increases in their freshman class in years. The increase puts a strain on campus student housing. It also comes at a time when the college is trying to tackle workforce housing issues for faculty and staff. Now, officials are turning to several possible solutions to create housing for both students and employees.
