The town of Mancos is gearing up to welcome nearly 50 authors from across the country for the Mesa Verde Literary Festival, happening this Saturday, July 12. The day-long celebration of writing and reading is hosted by the Mancos Creative District and the Four Corners Writers group.

Local author Mark Stevens, a member of the writers group, says events will take place at 15 venues throughout downtown Mancos, including cafes, art galleries, the Opera House, and the library.

“We’ve got crime fiction, romance, nonfiction, poetry, middle grade, young adult—you name it,” Stevens said. “It’s a chance to really get up close and personal with authors.”

Festival highlights include two keynote speakers: acclaimed author Pam Houston at Fenceline Cider at 5 p.m., and novelist Tim Weed at the Mancos Opera House at 7 p.m. There will also be youth writing workshops held at the Mancos Commons.

Visitors can register for free at mancoscreativedistrict.com. Attendees will receive a lanyard upon arrival and be guided to venues by event volunteers.

For Stevens, who recently released No Lie Lasts Forever, the event is a celebration of books and the people who love them. “Let’s turn it into a day of writer celebration and book celebration,” he said.

LP recently moved to the Four Corners from Austin, Texas, where they worked as a Case Manager for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and in HOA property management where they were fortunate to learn many different styles of communication and creative thinking/problem solving. In their time away from work, they watch a ton of movies (spanning all decades, nationalities, and genres), and tries to listen to one really good album every day.
