Ballots are beginning to come in for Cortez’s municipal election as the April 7 deadline approaches.
City officials say just over 500 ballots had been returned as of March 30, out of roughly 6,000 mailed to registered voters. They expect more ballots to be returned closer to Election Day.
This year’s ballot includes eleven candidates running for five open seats on the Cortez City Council, along with four ballot questions related to proposed updates to the city’s charter.
Officials say the charter questions have generated some confusion among voters due to their complexity, and are encouraging residents to review the materials before casting their ballots.
Ballots must be returned by 7 p.m. on Election Day, April 7. Postmarks do not count, so voters should return ballots in person at City Hall or at an official drop box.
Unofficial results will be available the evening of the election, with final certified results expected by April 16.
