  • Newly released documents say a fraud investigation into the Utah-based American Lands Council found nothing worthy of charges.

A man and woman who allegedly burglarized the Children’s Kiva Montessori School in Cortez have been arrested in Monte Vista, Colorado. According to a Cortez Police report, the pair were stopped by Monte Vista police December 27th for a traffic violation. Police then found eight iPad Air devices and several blank checks from school accounts and the finance director’s personal account. Monte Vista police said the woman admitted they had found the school’s door open and had stolen the checks and iPads. According to the report, the Kiva’s finance director said the school was missing eight iPad Airs as well as four thumb drives, her ID card and debit card, and a number of blank checks. Monte Vista police held the pair on charges of theft, criminal impersonation, and possession and distribution of drugs.

Newly released documents say a fraud investigation into the Utah-based American Lands Council found nothing worthy of charges. The Salt Lake Tribune reports the Utah Attorney General’s Office had investigated whether the nonprofit’s director, state Representative Ken Ivory, was defrauding counties by claiming his organization could help bring about local or state control of federal lands. But an investigator said despite donating thousands of dollars to the council, counties did not feel cheated even though most of the money goes to Ivory and his wife.
