Durango’s Public Art Commission has decided to take down the “Arc of History” sculpture at the intersection of highways 550 and 160. The piece, made of graduated pieces of stone, was installed in July of 2014 and vandalized a year later. An appraiser found it to be a total loss. The commission voted unanimously Tuesday to remove the much-criticized sculpture, saying it could not reach agreement with the artist on a price to restore the work.
