More than 1100 motorists were cited for seat-belt violations or improper child restraint during a week-long rural “Click It or Ticket” enforcement period in Colorado. Fifty-eight agencies statewide took part in the effort from July 18th to 24th. In Southwest Colorado, the Durango office of the State Patrol issued 79 citations, the Cortez Police Department 17, the Montezuma County sheriff’s Office five and the Bayfield Marshal’s office three. The Colorado Department of Transportation says its statistics indicate that many rural areas consistently rank below state averages for seat-belt use.
