Legislation intended to stave off a Bears Ears National Monument designation in Southeast Utah is finally moving forward.
On Wednesday, Utah Representative Rob Bishop’s massive Public Lands Initiative had a hearing before a House Natural Resources subcommittee. In a statement, the nonprofit Center for Western Priorities said, with just 26 working days left in Congress this year, the bill “has no chance of becoming law.” But the Salt Lake Tribune reports that Utah Representative Jason Chaffetz says the bill is moving at a record pace and there is still time to get it passed before President Obama leaves office.
