New Cortez Fire Station Gets City Approval

Cortez Fire Protection District

The Cortez City Council gave the go-ahead Tuesday to the Cortez Fire Protection District for a new fire and rescue station on Washington Street.

The council approved both a conditional use permit and site development plan. The facility will combine the functions of the district’s existing fire house and administration building in the same area. In response to concerns from some residential neighbors about possible construction impacts, the council considered a provision limiting construction hours, but ultimately rejected that. Fire Chief Jeff Vandevoorde said he would try to arrange a meeting with neighbors and to ensure that construction is done within reasonable hours.
