A wet winter has left Cortez in good shape in regards to precipitation.

According to statistics provided by local weather observer James Andrus, Cortez enjoyed a little over four and a half inches of moisture, 159 percent of normal, in the first three months of 2017. Nearly three inches fell in January, which was more than three times wetter than normal. Though things have dried off a bit, the area is not considered to be in drought. However, the 90-day forecast predicts warmer-than-usual temperatures.
