Durango Considers Replacement for Art at 160/550 Intersection

Google Earth

Durango residents are sharing ideas for how to decorate the medians near the intersection of highways 160 and 550 on the west side of town.

One of the medians formerly held a stone sculpture that was widely ridiculed by residents and sometimes decorated with dinosaur heads or clothing. It was taken down last year, before the medians were rebuilt.

The Durango Herald reportsthe City of Durango is now asking locals to suggest ideas for a new piece in the location, plus an installation process that will involve the public. But a poll on the newspaper’s web page finds that a majority of respondents say a new installation process is not worth it. The town’s deadline to submit suggestions is in mid-December.
