CPW Ends Search After Fatal Mountain Lion Attack Near Denver

Ways To Subscribe

Colorado Parks and Wildlife has ended its active search related to a fatal mountain lion attack that occurred on the Crosier Mountain Trail in Larimer County, northwest of Denver. After more than 72 hours of searching, officers and houndsmen found no evidence of an additional mountain lion in the area.

According to CPW, necropsies on two subadult mountain lions involved in the incident showed both animals were healthy and tested negative for rabies, with human DNA found on one of the lions. Officials believe the animals were part of a family group and say the decision to euthanize them was made in the interest of public safety, noting that attacks on humans are extremely rare. Though, this attack took place after numerous sightings in that area.

We get sightings here as well. As I said yesterday, if you encounter one on the trails or even on your property - attempt to make yourself look larger by lifting your arms, maintain eye contact, and back away slowly.

LP recently moved to the Four Corners from Austin, Texas, where they worked as a Case Manager for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and in HOA property management where they were fortunate to learn many different styles of communication and creative thinking/problem solving. In their time away from work, they watch a ton of movies (spanning all decades, nationalities, and genres), and tries to listen to one really good album every day.
