Wildfire info meeting set for Montezuma County residents

Ways To Subscribe

As wildfire season approaches in southwest Colorado, Montezuma County officials are inviting residents to a Community Wildfire Information Meeting to help people prepare.

The meeting is set for Tuesday, March 24th from 6 to 8 p.m. in the BOCC meeting room at 109 West Main Street in Cortez.

Local fire officials will cover current fire danger levels, the status of controlled and agricultural burns, and what to expect during peak fire season—including possible burn restrictions.

They’ll also share practical steps homeowners can take to reduce wildfire risk, like creating defensible space and protecting their property.

The meeting includes time for questions, giving residents a chance to hear directly from fire professionals and learn how the community can work together to prevent wildfires.

Organizers say even one spark can lead to a major fire—so preparation now can make a big difference later.
