Guided wildflower walk planned at Canyons of the Ancients

Ways To Subscribe

Good morning!

I’m Lacy McKay.

Here’s the KSJD outdoor report

If you’re looking for a slower way to explore the desert this month, there’s a guided wildflower walk coming up at Canyons of the Ancients National Monument.

The San Juan Mountains Association is hosting the Sand Canyon Wildflower Walk on Saturday, May 16, from nine in the morning to noon.

The walk starts at the Sand Canyon and Rock Creek Trailhead, and participants will spend the morning identifying native plants and learning more about the high desert ecosystem.

Organizers say registration is required, and space is limited. They also recommend bringing water, snacks, sun protection, sturdy shoes, and a hand lens if you have one.

A couple of trailhead notes: there are no restrooms, and dogs are not allowed for this event.

Register on the San Juan Mountains Association page at sjma.org.
