Monument plants are blooming in the San Juan Mountains and La Platas, sending up tall flower stalks in a short-lived display after years or decades of growth.

Grand Canyon National Park has issued a warning that, because of extreme heat, people should not hike below the rim between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The San Juan Mountains Association will host a guided wildflower walk at Canyons of the Ancients National Monument on May 16, highlighting native plants and the high desert ecosystem.
