Delta County, located on Colorado’s Western Slope, has filed a complaint with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission regarding issues with the 9-1-1 system. The problems, primarily affecting Charter customers with voiceover internet protocol (VoIP) technology, led to 300 failed calls between June 2024 and March 2025. During this period, callers were either met with busy signals, continuous ringing, or were mistakenly routed to Montrose’s dispatch center. Emergency Manager Chris Stewart emphasized that the problem caused delays in dispatch services, with Montrose dispatchers needing to relay information to Delta County’s dispatch. Though the issue has been resolved, Delta County commissioners are still waiting for a response from CenturyLink, the state’s sole emergency telephone service provider.
