Calls to Renew, Inc.’s hotline have increased recently, according to its executive director.";

A surge in domestic violence caseshas been reported across the world as restrictions keep more people at home, bringing an increased risk to those who are isolated with an abusive partner.

But help is still available: Shelters are considered an essential service under Colorado’s stay-at-home order.

Tracy Blagg, executive director at Renew, Inc., said the Cortez-based nonprofit has seen an increase of calls to its hotline and office.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic or sexual violence, you can call the Renew, Inc. Crisis Hotline at 970-565-2100. The WINGS Safehouse can be reached at 970-565-9116. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is also available at 1-800-799-7233.

Renew also operates the WINGS Safehouse, a temporary shelter for survivors of domestic and sexual abuse. Blagg says it has the necessary supplies to keep the shelter safe from the spread of the coronavirus, like cloth masks for residents and cleaning supplies for disinfecting the space.

“I can assure anyone who needs to have safe shelter, that needs a place to come during this time, that we are taking all precautions for health and safety,” Blagg said.
