A little over a week after coming to Bluff, Utah, to hear views on protecting the Bears Ears area, Interior Secretary Sally Jewell is visiting Grand Canyon National Park. According to a release, she’s meeting with National Park Service leaders and employees to discuss the challenges of managing the iconic park. There is a proposal to create a 1.7-million-acre national monument around the park to protect the views and watershed from development. Petitions with more than a half-million signatures calling for the Greater Grand Canyon National Monument have reportedly been delivered to President Obama. There is no word on whether Jewell’s visit is linked to that proposal.
