New Mexico’s congressional delegation is backing the Navajo Nation in seeking a federal disaster declaration for an area near Shiprock, New Mexico, that experienced major flooding early in August.

The Farmington Daily-Times reports that the state’s two senators and three representatives have sent a letter to President Obama saying that more help is needed. The Navajo Nation has already declared a disaster in the area and has been assisting residents whose homes were destroyed.
