Commuting north of Rico may become easier in the future, as a San Miguel County-based entity considers suggestions for public transportation to and from the town.
Many Rico residents work and send their children to school in Telluride, but transit options are currently limited. Amy Levek, interim director of the newly-created San Miguel Authority for Regional Transportation, tells KSJD over 20 people attended a listening session in Rico Monday night to share ideas for public transportation. She says she heard “definite interest” in possible shuttle or ride-share systems to and from the town, but resolving the details will likely be complicated.
The Town of Rico currently has a transit survey on its website, and the Authority is planning future discussions in Rico and in surrounding towns.
