The Bureau of Land Management is moving forward with plans to create a genuine parking lot at the popular Sand Canyon trailhead west of Cortez. On Monday, Canyons of the Ancients National Monument Manager Marietta Eaton told the Montezuma County Commissioners the agency is reviewing four alternatives for the parking lot and she hopes to bring them to the board next month. Following the environmental analysis, the BLM will do public scoping.
