Boggy Draw Report for May 23rd

Ways To Subscribe

Happy Memorial Day weekend, riders! This is Phil with your Boggy Draw Trail Report for Friday, May 23.

We’ve had recent moisture across the region, and trail conditions are excellent right now. Black Goat, Boggy, and Maverick trails are riding well—no dust, thanks to the weekend rain. The trails dried out quickly enough that riders were back out by Tuesday. One notable sighting: a young bear foraging near the trail on Wednesday, so stay alert and respectful of wildlife.

The National Weather Service forecast looks great for outdoor activities, but windy conditions persist. The Forest Service reminds visitors that even with recent rain, the forest dries out quickly. Please be mindful of anything that could spark a fire.

While Boggy and Phil’s World are ideal for riding now, expect increasing heat soon. Rico's forecast also looks promising, though it may still be a little early for biking in the high country—consider a hike instead, with wildflowers starting to bloom.

With school out, High Desert Devo is offering summer biking programs for kids. Visit highdesertdevo.org for details.

Tuesday night trail work has resumed—check the Southwest Colorado Cycling Association website for updates on trail maintenance and riding conditions.

And lastly, congratulations to the Montezuma-Cortez High School Class of 2025! Celebrate with a ride if you can.

Have a great weekend and ride safe!

Grateful to Janet, Roadie Doug and Jonathan for allowing me to join them as one of the subatomic Electrons that make up the Eclectic Hour that bring a diverse mix of music to listeners, though I would love to join Chris in the Morning on KBEAR in beautiful Cicely, Alaska.
