Hot, Dry Weather Continues with Mountain Storm Chances This Week

Ways To Subscribe

Hot and dry conditions continue across the region today, with high temperatures running 4 to 8 degrees above normal.

You can expect isolated to scattered thunderstorms this afternoon over the San Juans and the Central Divide—mainly producing gusty outflow winds and lightning, with only a slight chance of wetting rain.

Winds will stay below critical fire thresholds, but breezy conditions are still expected.

Smoke from regional wildfires will create hazy skies at times, especially in eastern Utah and northwest Colorado.

Looking ahead, moisture will gradually increase through midweek, bringing a better chance for afternoon thunderstorms—especially over the mountains—with peak coverage likely around Thursday.

By late week into the weekend, rain chances taper off slightly as drier air moves in, but daily storms will still be possible.

Highs will begin to cool off a bit starting Wednesday, dipping closer to seasonal norms by the weekend.
