Today’s weather pattern is dominated by high pressure across the Rockies, keeping skies mostly clear across the region. We’ll see isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms along and east of the Divide, with more scattered storms developing over the San Juans. Highs will run about five degrees above seasonal averages, and storms will taper off by evening. Wednesday looks much the same, though with weaker storm activity.
Looking ahead, change is on the horizon. By Thursday, moisture will begin moving in from the southwest, setting the stage for a more active system by Friday. That means more widespread rain is possible heading into the weekend, along with cooler temperatures. Recent burn scars will be especially vulnerable to heavier rainfall and possible flash flooding, so residents in those areas should stay alert.
Yesterday marked the start of meteorological autumn. The National Weather Service expects above average temperatures and below average rainfall for the season.
