High pressure will dominate today and tomorrow, keeping skies mostly sunny and conditions warm across eastern Utah and western Colorado. Expect highs about 10 degrees above normal, with breezy southwesterly winds developing this afternoon, gusting 25 to 35 miles per hour. Winds will stay elevated into Friday, when a stronger system begins to move in, bringing increasing clouds and gusts up to 45 miles per hour ahead of a cold front.
By Friday night into Saturday, that low pressure trough will lift across the region, bringing widespread showers, the possibility of thunderstorms, and much cooler conditions. Highs will tumble by about 15 degrees, running below normal through the weekend. Snow levels will drop to near 10,000 feet Saturday and closer to 9,000 feet by Sunday morning, meaning a couple of inches of wet snow is possible above the mountain passes.
As the system exits Sunday, drier air returns and temperatures will gradually rebound to near or slightly above normal early next week. Another wave is expected mid-week, keeping the weather pattern unsettled for the mountains.
