Critics of a planned biochar facility at the former Ironwood plant southwest of Dolores voiced blistering criticism of both Ironwood and the Montezuma County commissioners at Tuesday’s commission meeting.

Plans for a biochar facility at the former Ironwood mill site got a thumbs-up Thursday night from the Montezuma County Planning and Zoning Commission. In other news, a local man whose actions sparked concern early this month when he twice approached children in Cortez and offered them money has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

A lengthy and contentious public hearing Thursday night on high-impact and special-use permits for new operators at the Ironwood mill site ended with the Montezuma County Planning and Zoning Commission continuing the hearing to June 13.

Montezuma County and the Ironwood mill remain in a legal dispute over waste wood on Ironwood's property at Road T and Highway 145.M

It is now a crime to openly carry firearms near polling places in Colorado. And Ironwood Mill near Dolores is violating state regulations for waste disposal.
