Mancos Accepted Into Colorado Creative Districts Program

Mancos Creative District

Mancos is one of six new districts accepted into the Colorado Creative Districts Program. The announcement was made Thursday by Colorado Creative Industries, the state’s art agency, and the Boettcher Foundation. The new districts will join 12 that exist around the state. Each will receive an award package worth about $40,000 that includes direct financial support, technical assistance, advertising and marketing support, access to grants, CDOT highway signs, and leadership training. Mancos Administrator Andrea Phillips tells KSJD town officials are very excited. She says the nonprofit Mancos Valley Resources will take over management of the town’s creative districts program and will look to hire a part-time administrator. She says, “We know from living here how great Mancos is but it’s great to get official recognition.”

The Dolores Ranger District of the San Juan National Forest is extending the public comment period on a draft environmental analysis for the Rico-West Dolores travel management project. The comment period was set to end on June 20th but has been extended until July 15th. The agency’s Debbie Kill tells KSJD there has been a steady influx of comments about the project, which addresses motorized use on Forest Service roads and trails north of Dolores, including Bear Creek, Taylor Mesa, the Calico Trail, and more. Some 250 comments were received during early scoping and that number has more than doubled during this comment period.

The electronic comment form will remain available on the San Juan National Forest website at: http://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=44918  In lieu of the website’s electronic comment form, comments may also be submitted in hard-copy format to Dolores Public Lands Office, 29211 Hwy. 184, Dolores, CO 81323 or faxed to the office at 970-882-6841.  Comments, including names and addresses, will become part of the public record. For more information, please contact Debbie Kill at 970-882-6822 or by email at dkill@fs.fed.us
