What Causes Spring Winds in the Four Corners?

Austin Cope

Many locals know spring is wind season in the Four Corners.

Over the past week there have been two red flag warnings for Southwestern Colorado, and gusty winds commonly occur between the months of March and June. According to Cortez weather observer and meteorologist Jim Andrus, variations in atmospheric pressure and differences in temperature cause wind in genera. In spring, that pattern becomes more predictable. KSJD's Austin Cope sat down with Andrus to learn more about what causes spring winds.
