Warm temperatures raise fire concerns across Four Corners

Ways To Subscribe

Forecasters say a passing system may bring gusty winds to the region this afternoon and tomorrow.

Later this week, a strong area of high pressure is expected to settle over the entire western half of the country, with its center near the four corners, pushing temperatures well above normal for mid-March.

Highs in the lower valleys could climb into the 70s and 80s, which is roughly 20 degrees above average for this time of year.

If the warming trend continues, some communities could approach record temperatures later this week.

This also spells trouble for our already dwindling snowpack.

Colorado is averaging 63% of median with our corner of the state at 55% of median.

More on water Wednesday tomorrow.

Forecasters say the warm and dry conditions could increase fire weather concerns across parts of the region, especially if breezy winds continue to couple with the lack of precipitation we have been experiencing.
