Heat wave fuels critical fire danger across region

Ways To Subscribe

Hot and dry weather continues across the region this week, with temperatures running well above normal and daily record highs possible through midweek.

There is a slight chance of light showers in the northern mountains later today, but most of that moisture is expected to evaporate before reaching the ground, bringing little to no measurable precipitation.

By Wednesday and Thursday, the heat intensifies, with some areas potentially approaching or exceeding all-time March temperature records. At the same time, winds will begin to pick up and humidity levels will drop below 15 percent.

That combination of heat, wind, and dry air is expected to create widespread critical fire weather conditions, especially across northern parts of the region.

Winds ease a bit by Friday, but dry conditions and occasional gusts will keep fire danger elevated into the weekend.
