Colorado Launches Agricultural Stewardship Tax Credit

Ways To Subscribe

Colorado farmers and ranchers can now apply for a new Agricultural Stewardship Tax Credit, designed to reward producers who adopt conservation practices that boost soil health, improve water efficiency, and support diverse ecosystems — all while keeping operations productive.

Created under House Bill 24-1249, the refundable credit is managed by the Colorado Department of Agriculture and Department of Revenue, with up to $3 million available each year. Producers can qualify whether they’re newly adopting or already practicing techniques such as no-till farming, cover cropping, rotational grazing, pollinator habitat planting, or irrigation water management.

Applications are open now, and producers must submit their attestation statement by November 10th to finalize eligibility. The program cannot overlap with other grants or credits, but it does allow participants to earn a refund even if they owe no taxes.

More details and application materials are available on the CDA’s Agricultural Stewardship Tax Credit hub site.
