On Tuesday, June 9th from 5:30pm The Sunflower Theatre in association with The Quivira Coalition and Friends will screen “All About a Bird: 1000 Acts of Restoration”.
The second episode of the "Thinking Like Water" series highlights the endangered Gunnison Sage Grouse and how people pull together to save this unique bird. A panel discussion will follow the screening.

On Saturday, June 6th between 3:00 and 5:00pm, The Sunflower Theatre will host a Poetry Workshop titled "A Place We Call Home".
Drawing on the work of Indigenous poets and other writers, Inaugural Poet Laureate of Durango, Esther Belin, will assist participants to generate their own poems celebrating the places that shape and sustain us.

The Disabled American Veterans Outreach Center offers rides for Veterans to medical appointments and is looking for volunteer drivers to join the team. Vehicles and gas are provided for these trips.

The Cortez City Council meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at City Hall on Roger Smith Ave. starting at 7pm.
May 27 Wednesday
On Wednesday, May 27th at 5:30pm, The Dolores Watersheds Collaborative and Partners will host a Wildfire Ready Action Plan meeting at Rico Town Hall.
Wildfires have the potential to increase erosion, flooding, debris flows and sedimentation if a significant rain event follows a large high-intensity fire. This plan will identify areas in the upper Dolores Watershed most susceptible to post-fire flood hazards and develop mitigation activities and projects.
Cortez Recreation Center will be hosting an Adult Co-Ed Sand Volleyball League on Wednesdays beginning June 17th.
All skill levels are welcome. The silver league is for casual, recreational players while the gold league is more competitive.
Teams of at least four players can register by June 5th by calling 970 564 4080.
Dolores River Brewery hosts Trivia Night every Wednesday from 6.00 to 8:00pm.
Teams of one to six people are welcome to test their knowledge among fellow trivia lovers.
Kelly's Kitchen will serve chicken kastu, pulled pork, and grilled cheese from 4:00 to 8:00pm.

Every Thursday at 9:00am, Canyon of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum invite volunteer gardeners to come lend a hand in keeping the gardens at the center looking their best.
No experience is necessary other than a love of plants.

In celebration of the Annual Ute Mountain Mesa Verde Birding Festival, Cortez Cultural Center will host an art exhibition titled, "Winged Horizons".
Running until Saturday, May 30th, the artwork will feature this year's honored bird, the green-tailed towhee, which can usually be found around Mesa Verde National Park.
Hospice of Montezuma is offering a weekly men’s discussion group on Fridays from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
